Words, words, words…

Knock twice if you can hear me.

If I speak in tongues will you understand me?

This sculpture is entitled “Free Sex” these words are written on the bronze, have I made myself clear?

What am I saying?  Words, words, words…. human rights, protect them….Yes!  That’s it!

On the one hand there is technical ability, training, talent, imagination… call it what you will; the creative use of a medium… perhaps I can find an analogy in our dreams.

Do you dream in words?  Is there a language?

Or are the images surrounded by emotions and feelings that cannot be quantified or put into words?

I am beginning to believe that words and the work of art co-exist.

Words alone can only exist in the realms of literature or philosophy.

For art, we need something more…a medium of some sort.

The conceptual alone cannot lead a visual medium very far, an idea is great but can you make it visual?

This is where training comes in.

With it, we can unleash an artistic idea that may otherwise never have reached the light of day.

By the same token, an artist who is merely engaging in a technical exercise fails to employ the most important tool within his grasp.

They say one must have ‘lived’ before becoming a great artist.

What does this mean?

We must have stories to tell; stories that touch somebody’s heart….

Words have allowed me to share more, of late, with greater accuracy and with less danger of misinterpretation.

Language is a promise…language is expression… communication is our future!

Have I expressed myself clearly?
